Male' - very reliable source in the government confirmed that Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mr. Mohamed Jaleel has submitted his resignation from the cabinet yesterday, after he was forced by the dictator to withhold information about the various ministers who prevented him from completing the mega projects that were included in this year’s budget.
According to our source, the ministers who obstructed the progress of these projects include Planning Minister Hamdhoo Hameed (dictator’s nephew), Construction Minister Mauroof Jameel and Attorney General Azima Shukoor. In fact, we can reveal that Jaleel was going to name and shame them in the parliament during question time yesterday but the dictator pressed him not to do so.
The mega projects proposed by Jaleel which were included in the current budget were supposed to bring in more than 200 million dollars but never materialised resulting in economic chaos.
Finance Minister and Tourism Minister resigned in the last few days over the issue of budget deficit and other issues related to the economy.
There also reports that the parliament is considering a vote of no confidence on Jaleel for his part in the economic downturn and failing to deliver on his promises.
Minister Jaleel told the local media yesterday that he would not hesitate from resigning if he was hindered in doing his job, which seems to be the case.
